Converting a JPG to PNG is one of the most common image chores on the web, and it is mostly about changing the container and encoding strategy rather than improving the pixels. A JPG is stored with lossy compression, so the photo you see is already a slightly simplified version of what the camera captured. Why you would want a PNG at all

The big draw is the alpha channel. JPG has no transparency concept — every file is a solid rectangle of opaque pixels. Be prepared for the output to be a lot bigger than the input, especially for photos. If the goal is smaller images rather than transparency, converting JPG to PNG is the wrong tool; if the goal is a clean transparent edge or an editable layer, it is exactly right.

A common pipeline: export your work as PNG while editing, then convert (or compress) to JPG or WebP for final delivery. That way you keep the flexible master and ship only the lightweight copy.
